Time to talk
Appointments are never rushed. I want to hear what is happening in your life as well as where it hurts, because work, sleep, worry and grief all affect how your body feels. Many people tell me it is the first time anyone has asked.
Easing the tension
Treatment is gentle and hands-on: soft tissue work for the neck, shoulders, jaw and upper back, slow mobilisation of stiff joints, and stretching. Most people leave feeling looser and calmer.
I will also show you simple things to do at home: breathing and stretches that take a few minutes, and small changes to your day that help your body let go.
Working alongside other support
Osteopathy helps with the physical side of stress. It does not replace care for anxiety, depression or burnout themselves. If you are struggling, please talk to your GP as well; I am happy to work alongside them, a counsellor or any other support you have.
What you can do at home
- Drop your shoulders and unclench your jaw a few times a day.
- Breathe slowly out for longer than you breathe in, for a minute or two.
- Get up and move every half hour if you sit for work.
- A short walk outside helps your body as well as your head.
See your GP or get urgent help if you have
- Low mood, worry or panic that is affecting your daily life (see your GP)
- Chest pain, or pain spreading to your arm, jaw or back (call 999)
- Thoughts of harming yourself (call 999, or Samaritans free on 116 123, any time)
- Sudden breathlessness or a racing heart that does not settle
If you are not sure, call NHS 111. Clare will always tell you if she thinks you need to see a doctor rather than an osteopath.
